Journey by Aaron Beck. Wordless books are excellent for preschool students. Looking at a wordless book, your student can make up the story themselves. This encourages close observation of the illustrations and broadens the imagination.
Sheep in a Jeep by Nancy Shaw. What happens when the beloved sheep climb into a red jeep and drive out into the country? In her hilarious rhyming style, Nancy Shaw tells us all about it. Kids really love this book. Jeep owners not so much.

Jellyfish (A Day in the Life of Sea Animals) by Louise Spilsbury. Learn all about the jellyfish in this beautifully illustrated book. If the details are too much for your student, read the first one or two sentences on each page.
Jeremiah Jellyfish Flies High by John Fardell. Poor Jeremiah is not happy with his life in the ocean and looks for something better. He soon discovers the grass is not always greener. This picture book is great for students who can handle longer text.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Fish by Jarrell J. Krosoczka. Peanut Butter is a seahorse. Jelly Fish is a jelly. These two creatures are best friends, but Crabby the neighbor is not kind. When the crab gets in trouble and needs help what will PB and J do?
Read this book before you do the lowercase letter J craft and transform the letter j into a jester.
The Jester Has Lost His Jingle by David Saltzman. One day the jester wakes up and discovers the kingdom has lost laughter. He and a friend set out to find it and bring it back to the people.
Jumping is an excellent activity for preschool kids and a great way to get the wiggles out before storytime with letter J books for preschool. Try these jumping games for kids before you read these books.
Jump Frog, Jump by Robert Kalan. A snake is in the water, and this cumulative tale encourages the frog and the children to jump for safety. A cumulative tale repeats each line and adds a new line as the story builds.
Hop. Jump. by Ellen Stohl Walsh. A little frog shows her friends that sometimes you’ve had enough hopping and jumping and its time to dance.
The Frog That Couldn’t Jump by William McIvor. Webby can’t jump. It’s not a great life for a frog. When jumping becomes necessary for survival, will Webby be able to make the leap?
Jump! by Scott M. Fischer. Beginning with a little bug, a series of creatures jump in fright and those animals get subsequently larger and larger throughout the book. Will the ending make you jump?
Jumping Mouse: A Native American Legend of Friendship and Sacrifice by Misty Schroe. The little mouse cannot jump until Grandfather frog gifts her with legs. Thus begins a tale of sacrifice and selflessness and friendship.
Jamberry by Bruce Degen. A boy and a bear go hunting for berries together. Berries for jam! The illustrations in this book have subtle complexities fun to explore together.
The Giant Jam Sandwich by John Vernon Lord. What would you do if four million wasps descended on your city? This clever town lays a trap.
Jam by Margaret Mahy. Mr. Castle becomes a stay at home Dad and the kids are a little skeptical. Turns out he does pretty well, but gets a little bored until the plum tree overflows.
Fish Jam by Kylie Howarth. A fish who loves to sing is ostracized until he is swallowed by a whale and discovers a belly full of jamming friends. Not the same meaning of Jam, but equally fun.
Jungle Jam by Louise Lederman. Mikey the monkey journeys through the jungle learning the music of each animal.
Edward in the Jungle by David McPhail. A young boy is reading a book in his backyard and the book comes to life around them to create an epic adventure.
Over in the Jungle: A Rainforest Rhyme by Marianne Berkes. In her beautiful rhyming style, Marianne Berkes shares some magic from the jungle in this twist on the classic poem.
Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae. The illustrations and rhyme of this book are a perfect addition to story time and keep kids enthralled as they meet different jungle friends.
