Sharing is caring!
As Christmas approaches, I start thinking about the types of gifts I would like my kids to get under the tree. We really don’t need any fu-fu toys without any purpose. And there are so many great gifts for kids who love science available. I decided to put together a list of science gifts I know my kids will love that won’t just be taking up space on a shelf.
Whether you are shopping for Christmas or birthdays or special occasions, finding a great gift that will stand the test of time and become a favorite, most-talked-about gift for years is the goal of every parent! And I don’t know about you, but I do like to give ideas to the grandparents for gifts too.
Little kids definitely enjoy science-related gifts. The best part is that your kiddos will be building neural pathways for Science as they play. That’s why people call them brain-power toys!
Color Fizzers for color mixing and color science activities.
The Grow and Glow Terrarium includes everything kids need to experience two growing cycles.
Hatch and release your own butterflies with this butterfly garden. It comes with live specimens (caterpillars) ready to spin a cocoon.
A Flower Growing Kit includes everything you need to plant and grow beautiful flowers just in time for your Spring gardens.
My First Microscope helps your child explore the unseen.
Binoculars for Kids are great for hikes and outdoor exploration.
My First Science Kit gets your kids started with the scientific method.
Play with water and talk about the science with Orbeez.
Enjoy watching a Light Up Ant Farm Kit.
The Extreme Geyser Tube is just one of the many cool kits Steve Spangler has put together. This Stringy Slime Kit is pretty cool too.
Lab experiment kits are so much fun!
Edible Slime Kit for kids is food chemistry in action and includes experiments and learning materials.
Build your own volcano with this cool kit.
Try these Disgusting and Gross Zombie Science Activities for kids.
Crystal Growing is a time-tested science activity kids love.
Asking relatives to give the gift of experiences to your kids is a great way to avoid “stuff overload” and the materialism that too much stuff encourages. And kids love this! What’s not to love about a fun and exciting shared family experience?
Having a zoo membership is a blessing for both kids and moms! It’s such a nice break from routine to get out for a walk around the zoo once a week. Your family will have the joy of watching zoo babies grow up and the animals change with the seasons.
Pro Tip: Go on a slightly rainy day when everyone else will stay home. Some animals love the rain!
If you have a science museum within driving distance, this is an amazing experience gift. Most science museums have multiple hands-on exhibits that are purposely designed to get kids thinking and experimenting and growing neural pathways for science into their brains. Even very young kids will find a lot to enjoy at a science museum.
The national park system in the United States is an incredible resource with knowledgeable staff who teach free class sessions daily and a Junior Ranger program at every park. Plus hiking at the national parks is a great way to get your kids outside!
Check your local area for summer camps or Spring break camps with a focus on science. How to find a science camp nearby.
If you are close enough to a local aquarium, it is too cold or extra rainy days what the zoo is for sunny or slightly rainy days. It’s a fun break for kids and yet they will actually be learning.
Sometimes these places offer extra classes for a fee and your kids can learn so much and explore their scientific interests in more detail.
You can find gifts for kids who love science almost anywhere! Amazon is a great place to shop if you have Amazon Prime and can get two-day shipping. Barnes and Noble Bookstores tend to have a wonderful selection of science-related gifts. Big box stores like Walmart and Target will have a decent selection.
You can also shop at specialty stores like Fat Brain Kids. One of my favorite places to find really cool science gifts is museum shops. If you have a nearby science museum, zoo, or aquarium chances are good that the gift shop is going to have some really awesome curated gift ideas.
