Family Life
Meet our family!
Hollie ‘Mom’
Hello! I am Hollie and mom to our little clan. I was born and grew up in the countryside of England, until I crossed the pond at age 23 to explore La La Land! I became a jack of many trades working as everything from a Martial Arts Instructor, personal trainer and nanny, to being the voice of a Bratz doll toy. (Yes, like the one your daughter has that never stops talking!) After 6 years in California I decided to see what else this great country offered and traveled to Idaho, where I lived for a year before moving to Colorado. I went back to school to earn my BA and Masters degree in Elementary Education and settled down with my family. Now a stay at home mom to my 2 little monsters, sorry I mean angels, I spend my days nurturing their growth and creating fun family activities and adventures for us. I also work as a preschool teacher on the Outschool platform and just LOVE my morning spent with young children from all over the world.
Kiki ‘Puchin’
Hi, I’m Kiki, but my parents call me Puchin! (When I was born I looked like a little capuchin monkey, you know the ‘organ grinder monkey’). I am 5 going on 20 and definitely live up to the expectations of a highly spirited young child! I know exactly what I like and want, and am extremely persistent in pursuing these (what I would call necessities and my mom would call desires!) I love french fries, treats and olives, they are super yummy and would eat them at every meal if I was allowed. My favorite way to fill my time is to play and explore outside. I also love to watch ‘True’, read books and attend my swimming and dance classes.
Xander ‘Calvin’
Hi I’m Xander! (aka Calvin) I am 3 years old and definitely am beginning to embrace the ‘terrible 2’s’ stage of life. I love to throw rocks into water and am at my happiest when surrounded by nature. I also adore Puchin! She makes me smile and is my favorite friend to play with.
Homeschooling
Last year we began to venture into the world of Homeschooling. After a lot of research and a LOT of trial and error, we have settled into a Wild schooling/Relaxed Homeschooling method of teaching. We strongly believe in education through play for as long as possible and for learning to be child led and parent supported. So why are we relaxed homeschoolers and not unschoolers? We do use some curriculum and worksheets, at Puchin’s desire, and as she ages there will be some non-negotiable learning requirements. Join us here for fun learning themes, activity ideas and general relaxed homeschooling tips!
Outschool
For the past 3 years I have been working as an online teacher. After 2 years working for VIPKID I ventured over to the Outschool platform to teach preschoolers and absolutely LOVE it! Outschool is a wonderful, fun and stress free side hustle to earn a little bit of extra money from home without compromising my stay at home mom duties. Find all my tips and tricks on getting hired and being a top rated teacher here. You can also come join us over on my facebook page for inspiration and ideas on additional hands on learning games for your Outschool preschooler.
Wellness
As a family we strive to live a healthy and active lifestyle. Having been both a qualified fitness instructor and a Martial arts instructor it’s natural that I love to try new fitness routines and find new ways to be active as a family. For the first 2 years of her life Puchin had many food allergies – gluten intolerance, egg, legumes, dairy and soy. So we are used to cooking and eating to manage these intolerances. Although we have reintroduced some foods we still can’t tolerate dairy, the navigation of avoiding these ingredients in our heavily processed food world can be tricky! Find our latest wellness adventures and tips on living dairy free here.
Recipes
We love to cook and bake new things! For health and allergy reasons, we try to eat as little processed food as possible. Since we still love tasty food and treats we spend a lot of time testing and experimenting with new recipes. Here you will find our most enjoyed and loved recipes, the vast majority of which are dairy and soy free. As Puchin was intolerant for the first 2 years of her life to gluten, eggs and legumes, as well as dairy and soy, I have lots of recipes to share that cover these allergies too.
