Fun Uppercase Letter B Craft for Preschool Kids

I remember when I was in Kindergarten, we learned our letters with little videos that turned each letter into a cartoon character that talked. Today, your child is going to turn the letter b into a buzzing bumblebee in this uppercase letter b craft. Is this not adorable?

What You Need for Your Uppercase Letter B Craft.

• Construction Paper for the Background (your choice of color)
• Black Construction Paper
• Yellow Construction Paper
• One Red Pipe Cleaner
• Glue
• Scissors

It can be really helpful to cover your table in a vinyl tablecloth or disposable table cloth before you start. This will make clean-up so much easier as you can just scoop up the table cloth and empty the paper scraps into the trash can. Once you have all of your supplies lined up it is time to start crafting!

Instructions for the Uppercase Letter B Craft

For reference, here are the pieces you need to cut. You can trace these shapes for your child to make them easier to cut. Use loop scissors if your child isn’t ready for the regular child-safe scissors.

1. Cut out a large uppercase B from the black paper. (Trace a letter B onto the paper and let your child do the cutting if at all possible.)
2. Next, cut out 2 wings and two eyes from the white construction paper.
3. Then cut strips of yellow construction paper and cut small pieces from the strips to form the stripes of the bumblebee and his antennae.
4. Next, cut out two black dots for the eyes, and two smaller black dots for the antennae.
5. Then, glue down the wings.
6. Next, glue down the yellow strips for the stripes.
7. Then, add the eyes one layer at a time and the antennae on top of the eyes.
8. Finally, Glue down the red pipe cleaner to form the mouth.

Learning Activities

As you are making this magical transformation of the letter b, take the opportunity to practice making a buzzing sound just like the bumblebee who’s sound matches the letter from his name. What a fun thing to notice and chat about. Bees make the b sound when they buzz, buzz, buzz!

Letter crafts are a great tactile way to help your child remember the shape of each letter. Have your child trace the letter shape with his hands and then try to draw it in the air. Talk about how the uppercase letter b forms to big bubbles.

Buzzing Fun with the Bumblebee

Once you’ve finished your uppercase letter b craft, take the finished project to your child’s bedroom on a field trip. Buzz around the room and find things in the room that start with the letter b. Letter b is for bedroom and blanket and ball and bed for starters!

Once you’ve found all the letter b sounds in your child’s bedroom, buzz the bee over to the wall and hang it there on display to remind your child of the buzzing letter b. If you want an easy and removable way to hang the letter craft up, use painter’s tape.

This finished uppercase letter b craft is one your preschool child will be super proud of and want to show to everyone who visits! Just looking at it brings a smile to every face and brightens up a room.

If you are going to complete the letter crafts each week with us, you might want to create a huge banner and display the finished projects for review. All you need is basic twine and a way to fasten it in two corners of a room near the ceiling.

As your child completes each project, simply attach both ends of a piece of tape to the front and back of the paper, wrapped around the twine in the middle. The tape won’t actually stick to the twine so you will need to touch the tape to the paper on both sides for it to stay. This creates a fantastic way for you to review the letters you’ve already learned a few times each week.
