Learning the letters and sounds of the alphabet can be challenging for little ones, but providing visual imagery like this craft will help. When your child makes this Lowercase Letter R Craft, they will practice the shape and sound of R and transform the letter into a rabbit.
The nice thing about our letter crafts like this one and the uppercase letter R craft is that all you need is construction paper, scissors, glue, and sometimes googly eyes or chenille stems. They are very simple, but also very effective. Look at how cute the little rabbit is when your child is finished!
In our list of Letter R Books for Preschool, we have several rabbit books to choose from. Pick one or two up at the library or place a quick order on Amazon and read these books with your child to introduce the rabbit lowercase letter R craft.
When you are using themes to advance learning, sometimes having one or two toys can really help by connecting learning time to playtime and imaginative play that relates back to the lessons. Sometimes you can find puzzles and toys related to the theme at your local library. Here are a few of my favorite toys for the rabbit theme.
Folkmanis Rabbit Puppet. The Folkmanis brand of animal puppets is realistic and beautifully crafted. Puppets encourage pretend play.
Miniature Lop-Eared Rabbit Finger Puppet from Folkmanis. The small size fits on a finger and makes it easier for some kids to manage. Another great thing about puppets is that you can use them as the teacher to read books aloud or teach the lesson from the rabbit’s perspective.
Rabbit Figurine Plastic Animals. Plastic animals are a favorite toy for pretend play and can be used for bingo or math counters as well.
Woodland Floor Puzzle with a rabbit. Floor puzzles are excellent for gross motor skills improvement and large muscle movement. They also help children build logic and thinking skills. This particular floor puzzle has a rabbit and several other woodland animals.
You can have so much fun with a rabbit theme! Extend the learning to other subject areas with these activities.
Rabbits, Rabbits, and More Rabbits! By Gail Gibbons is a non-fiction picture book loaded with facts about rabbits. If you find it is too much text you can read your child the first sentence on each page and then add more information as your student is ready.
You might also find a petting zoo with rabbits and take your kids to visit. Sometimes local animal shelters will have rabbits and other pets your children can help socialize – call first to check on this. You might also ask in your local Facebook or Next Door app if anyone has a pet rabbit who wouldn’t mind a short visit.
Try this fun rabbit yoga pose to help your kids relax and regulate emotions more effectively. Kid’s yoga is an excellent form of physical activity for preschool children.
