When your student is ready to learn about the letter R, our list of letter R books for preschool is the perfect tool. Reading out loud with books featuring the beginning R sound prominently is a great way to review the letter and its sound together.
Each of the books on our list of letter R picture books is organized by theme so that you can find books of interest quickly. You might also choose to pick one or two books from each theme to enjoy. Or splurge at the library and bring them all home!
Begin each book by reading the cover — the title and author — to your child. Emphasize the word(s) that begins with the letter R in the title. Continue with an occasional emphasis on the R words throughout the book. You could also have your child or class raise a hand whenever the R sound is heard at the beginning of a word. If you are reading one-on-one, point to the letter R when it occurs at the beginning of words to help your child begin to recognize its shape.
