Sharing is caring!
If you’ve already checked out the Letter D Book List, you know that we have quite a few duck books for you to read this week. Ducks are such a fun theme! We’re tapping into that with this week’s uppercase letter d craft and making a super cute duck.
Cutting and pasting are so valuable for preschool kids! If you’ve been following along with us doing the alphabet crafts and letting your child do most of the work, you’ve probably already noticed an improvement in your child’s skill level with cutting and pasting. Don’t worry – none of these projects are supposed to be perfect.
Are you struggling to get your child to do crafts? That’s okay! Not all kids love craft time, but the value for building fine motor skills cannot be beat. Here are a few ways you can make craft time more palatable for reluctant kids.
I don’t know how many times I’ve strapped the baby into the high chair, called everyone to the table, and then realized I can’t find any of the kid’s scissors. That’s how I learned this pro tip: Before you call your kids in for craftwork, set up your area for the craft. Gather all of the supplies. Children have such a short attention span, it really helps if you can dive right in to your activity once you have their attention.
Another pro tip: You can never have too many pairs of kids scissors. Buy several pairs when the back-to-school stuff goes on clearance.
If you want to talk about the letter sound before you start crafting, gather up a few toys that start with d from the playroom when you gather supplies. Some examples you might have are dinosaurs, dogs, ducks, and diggers. Lay these out on the table and talk about each one before the craft.
Isn’t this uppercase letter d craft adorable? I love how great the duck turned out and I know it will be proudly displayed in your home.
Pro tip: Don’t forget to take pictures so you can make an alphabet book with your child’s creations! (Plus that way you don’t have to leave them hanging on the wall until they start to rot.)
